Chef, caterer, food writer, Slow Food lover… and the chick with the brownie obsession.
I lived in England once and spent memorable days learning about, shopping for, and preparing locally grown food. I cooked for everyone possible: dinner parties for locals; my Auntie’s funeral reception (over 300 guests); and a music festival, too. Back in Canada I became a personal chef and caterer; and gained more fresh food experience as Goodness Me's Kitchen/Deli Manager.
My Mayday Magazine work explored local food with recipes, interviews and more, and led me to The Sky Dragon Cooperative, where I founded the Bread & Roses Café. The café combines good coffee, art, activism and community spirit. It’s a friendly, casual eatery with a fair-trade/organic food emphasis. We had great reviews from Hamilton Magazine, The Hamilton Spectator, and View. Canadian Organic Growers named us “The Best Restaurant in Canada Serving Organic Food” in our first year.
Now I work for Environment Hamilton as Project Manager for Hamilton Eat Local and write for H Magazine. In 2007 I established Slow Food Hamilton and currently co-chair the organization with Barbara Ramsay Orr.
